Sandhills silently soared
toward the south soared
a low call I thought I heard
a high desire to soar I yearned
toward the south soared
a low call I thought I heard
a high desire to soar I yearned
I know, I’m a chain smoker
I need a cycologist
I can’t handle bars
A big o fender of spokes
Under lots of pressure
Always on my cycle
Tired
Rode hard and spun dry
So bike me!
In dire need of restoration. One of the oldest structures in Columbia County is used as a hay barn. Rose Creek Presbyterian. Little round top.
A brother and a six mile run
It was the May 3, 1980 Alligator 10k run, my first 10k. My brother Lewis Stokes was there to cheer me on. My time was 38:35 which placed me 23rd over-all. It was tough to place in the 25-29 age group during the early days of the running boom.
The old upright
Falling Creek Chapel
There was no secret cord
That Mary played before the Lord
Every hymn note loudly rang
Loud as Pearl as she off key sang.

O Come
John Clare
I came upon a girl
Trying to climb a tree
The first limb just beyond reach
Now in the old days
I would have just gone over
Pushed her up
But I saw granny glaring
At me through the single wide
door so I just nodded
and was thankful
someone once came by
and pushed me to the
First limb.
I would take their portrait
Such lovely oaks
For Spring I would wait
Blue sky and leaves green
A lovely picture indeed
But in my dream a scream
from many falling trees
I must take their picture today
Forget the coming Spring
But sadly it was too late
The screaming wasn't a dream.

In the swirling tramp of the rye
The boys in gray march by
By Regiment and rank aligned
The grassy cadence of double time
On home hearth's stir the hop
Tonight the boy's in gray make a stop
Pull the fiddle from the case
Upon the bosom her finest lace
For tomorrow go the boys in gray
Far from the rye's swirling sway.
