Annie May

In the narrow alley way between Valerie's Boutique and the House of Bargains, there is a tombstone. Wife of M.L.Callahan 1890-1920 is inscribed on the side of the soft stone. On top the words Annie May. And thus the mystery. I have challenged my historic sleuth  friend Harold Murphy to try and locate Annie May and some of her history possibly. Was the stone placed here as a prank?  The Callahan family were some of the first pioneer family to move into the Columbia County area. One of the Callahan's was a first cousin to Lincoln, living to the age of 105 in 1955.
I trust that Harold will find something about this Annie May.

  1. I have extensive research on my Callahan's and I can't match this up with anything. It is a puzzle!

    1. Could it be a prank? I would think that someone would have seen it before this. Could have come from a private spot on a farm or something.

    2. I do know that I have accounted for all of Jeff and Mary's children. Their oldest son Jake was old enough to have one that age, but he did not marry until 1895.

    3. I fibbed, Mary had nine children and I can account for 8. But don't think this is hers, as it is not listed in any census, and this person was 30 when they died.

    1. Been doing a little research, in 1910 there are two other Callahan families in Columbia Cty. David and wife Rose, James and wife Francis. None of their children's names match. Also there was a Melvin (Black) Callahan that died in 1923. Don't think any of these are related but you never know!

    1. Marvin is buried in Brunswick GA. Have contacted descendant, just waiting to hear back. My guess is she died in childbirth, they had a child that year. Marvin Lamontin Callahan was born Feb 24 1888. This family was in GA in 1917. I cannot find them on the 1920 but they were on the 1930 in Lake City. They lived on Baya St. between Dade and Church St.

  9. He must have worked at the Watertown Lumber Mill, his name was on the list of people there in 1920 or at least a ML was listed. Think the mill closed around that time.
Thanks again. Been most informative. I have another mystery project I'd like to see if your able to locate two sisters.
