Saturday was sultry,hot...it had been a long time it seemed, so a kayak trip to Alligator Lake, the halls of Halpatter, the Seminole Indian chief who once lived on the Northern shore of the lake, where now sits a VA nursing home. The waters from the recent tropical storm Debbie had swelled the lake, allowing me to pass the passage separating the lake on the Northern and Southern sides. As usual, I preferred the Southern side. Of particular interest was the cypress hammock that the high waters once again allowed a journey into. It bought back a bit of sadness in that the last time I had ventured into the hammock, it was with my friend Roger Sessler, who passed on this past October.
