This is the photograph I entered in the Adorama/Ken Rockwell photography contest. It was taken at Hopewell Baptist Church near the upper Suwannee River off Highway 6. A few asked, why this particular photo? I was attempting to read Rockwell's mind in that he likes bold images that stand out even as a thumbnail. Problem was, it wasn't bold enough. The other problem, the main problem, was the contest was viewer driven. If you did not have a good base of voters, you were sunk. Then, you had to make it to the top 25 photographs as I understood the contest for Rockwell to even judge the final winner.

I think they will post a ranking of the top pictures in the learning center as blog post. They are also going to give 100$ gift certificates to the top 3. As far as my entry goes I took it thinking of what ken likes in a picture, his whole philosophy can be narrowed down to "eye catching simplicity" which is what I was going for. He even stated he would pick out the winner from a thumbnail view in less than 5 minutes so entries had to be eye catching and bold and that's what I went for.

You read his mind perfectly. Bold, vivid colors with concise composition. Plus, you must of had a ton of voters to help. Even up to the last day of the contest I had friends saying, I did not know you could vote more than once, etc. That was despite posting the photo morning, noon and night ad over saturation.
ReplyDeleteIn reality all I did was post a link on my Facebook daily (or almost daily) since I was in south America at the start of the voting I didn't always have Internet access. I did enter very early when the voting started I think that might have helped.
