Precious ones

 Rock a bye

john clare

Before we have the time to learn

the lines to that little lullaby

Before the high chair and toys are

stored in the shed

Before even the waking to the crying

is forgotten from the spindled bed,

"Rock a bye baby in the tree top"

Too soon  we are standing in

December winds

Lamenting the bough has broken

and over our precious ones we bend

then look sadly up that tree hushed

not a word spoken.

It was such a strong tree!

And wasn't it but a gentle breeze?

How could baby and cradle fall?

Who left baby alone after all?

Oh! Trust not the strength in trees

or even the gentle south breeze

They will deceive and send baby falling!

Listen long for all about in the wind

Seen in the squint of eyes

The broken lines of faces

Weary from sleepless nights.

Watch for the cradles ever swinging

dangerously out

Reach the hand to stave the

winds pulling

Reach for the little ones in cradles of

trees falling

Out upon the rotting limbs

Swaying precious ones

in the winds.

Cliche man

 Cliche Ward

john clare

Sleeping in i tuned in

to hear this droning

stammering politician

speaking in complete

cliche sentences

saying the reason

he was running was

because he retired

and he was bored

so he wanted to restore

trust in gummernent

all the way up to the

President

And somehow I

just could not bring

myself to trust his

cliches and so in

my Commission District

Four Ward where there

is no trust

my neighbor

whom I thought I did trust

has his sign displayed

so I suppose

he hopes come election

day

he will vote to have trust

 restored all the way

 up to the Presidency.

I roll over and hit the

snooze button

and tell myself I really

should of been a

well paid bored retired

cliched politician.

 Self deception is deadly

God sees our unseen

Confess your sin continually

Have faith in His faithfulness

Selah

Prayer softens hardness

God is near as our knees

When floods distress

God calls off the seas

Selah

God is hidden in view

Sing loudly His praises

The humble are few

To them He raises.

Pastor Aaron said to write at least ten thoughts on Psalm

32:1-8 tonight. I wrote a poem.

No avail

 I tell

It was of no avail

They could not tell

Swallowtail

from

Swallowtail

Palamedes Swallowtail on milkweed

Cliche

Irresistible cliche

Try try try

To not offer

Cliche

Upon every

Comment

Try try try

And state not

The obvious

Upon every

Moment

Try try try

It will give

You a rose garden

I promise

Tulips

 I know a man

He loathes tulips

Not sure why

Something about a guy called Calvin

Growing them

I’d offer him a lily

But probably not

For their call to bloom

Is irresistible too

The double log bridge

The bridge near the Suwannee

Slip away

 Slip away

Loud

Once so loud

Her every word

Heard

Across the holler

Fast

Once so fast

Her every move

Fast

At speed of holler

Strong

Once so strong

Her every lift

Strong

Above all others

Weak

Now so weak

Her every turn

Weak

Pain in every thing

Quiet

Now so quiet

Her every whisper

Quiet

Faintly heard

Slip

Now slip away

Her every intention

Slipping

Away from us

Out of alignment

 Align

The last time

All was aligned

I was merely

Fifteen

In love with

Pam or Melissa

But really eying

Another secretly

For Eddies took

Both of them

Leaving me empty

And now I'm

Past seventy

And I still think of

Pam and Melissa

And secretly

Even think of

How empty I still feel

Even with one Eddie dying

And the other

Probably still trying

To eclipse my secret love.

Thus into

 Thus into the morning

Scenes in stone

 Foist upon them

The scenes

Time and again

Etch the lines

Time after time

Into the minds

One day shall find

Your name upon

the white marble

The scenes

The lines

Forever etched
