Down Pounds

 Down Pounds

Once was the time

A ride down Pounds Hammock

was something looked forward to

the pines lining both sides of the

often about deep enough to get stuck in sand

road with tracks bearing turkey and deer

butterflies and honey bees swarming

on the flowers in the zone between ditch

and pines, stopping often for just watching

jets passing through the myriad stars above

but not today for in the recent seasons the

timber men have taken about all the pine

pesticides or something has gotten the

butterflies and various insects

Just a lone dragonfly escorted me today

I’ll be a much older old man

by the time all these empty tracts fill in

the barren Pounds Hammock again

with planted pine.

The Sweeter Things In Life

 The sweeter things in life

John Clare Stokes

Sometimes someone does for you

a good thing

They know your mothers biscuits

you are missing

Smothered in the cane syrup

You and your father made

So what if they were baked by

Winn Dixie

So what if the cane syrup was

of the Columbia County kind

By the first bite I was once again

at the ole Homewood table

Looking out the screen window

down around the pond the sound

of the blue Ford tractor nearing

Knowing soon it would come

my turn to make the long way

through the pines to time beyond time.

Fill Dirt

In order to try and stop the chicken pen from flooding we are going to get two loads of dirt. I spent the afternoon taking the furniture out of the pen to put dirt in.

Rescue the perishing

The ant hangs onto the swallowtails leg, safe from the spider on the milkweed.

Monday

There are photos i would share, there are poems too. Some days i think of only Melissa giving her like immediately or Verna posting her cat like mine, or the Neal girl giving an idiot reply and everyone else ignoring it and i just don’t want to bother. I think i will take a break until my attitude is not so Monday.

Someone left the bean casserole

on the hood
and it slid to the pavement
I don’t think that i can take it
Cause it took so long to bake it
and now its Monday and i have no leftovers to eat

Canon Fodder

Cannon fodder

John Clare Stokes

When he had a Yashica

The teen said

If only I had a Pentax

I’ll be like Atget

So he got the Pentax

and he was still like a Yashica man

So he said

If only I had a Nikon

As Eugene Smith

A Pulitzer I’d win

So he got the Nikon

And he got an

Honorable mention

In the Florida Times-Union

Kodak contest

He started to tell himself

If only I had a Canon

But by then he said

If you haven’t done it yet

In these latter sixties

With a Yashica

Pentax or Nikon

Shoot, even a Brownie

No Canon would help

So he just figured there

would only be one Atget or Eugene

and there would have to be

Only one of him

with or without a Canon.

Mystery looks

I see i get 4-5-6 views on various posts but no comments. This blog is worse than my FB and Instagram pages for feedback. But then, i am not asking for feedback. Be nice to see who is looking.

Cheap lens?

Cheap to you perhaps. Expensive to me. But when you buy 13,000 lenses and cameras at the drop of a hat, i suppose it is cheap.  Must be nice Dick.

Monochrome

Old friend

My Long time friend Rick Bringger came and took me to lunch at the Skillet, formerly the Farmhouse. Saw Mrs. Freeman and Peggy from Lantern Park Days. Rick still bikes with Ben Chancey.

First things first

When we moved to Sopchoppy in 1955, i was 6months old. My father’s first project was to replace the stately wooden church. I am sure there was controversy but in the end the new church prevailed. The church is no longer a Methodist Church and the parsonage next door has been torn down. I image the only person living is Sam Dunlap pictured with the ladies taken when the church was first built.
