Moran Rainbow

Last evening at the Florida Gateway College in Lake City I attended a series of talks titled Our water,Our future. The keynote speaker was the celebrated photographer John Moran, who specializes in the Springs of Florida. Making my way to the college, I noticed a wonderful rainbow off to the east. As I came to the Levy Performing Arts Center, I saw Moran walking for his car. I stopped and reintroduced myself as the guy he photographed several years ago for the Lake City Logo controversy. He said he had been up since 3AM putting his show together and was going to catch a nap before the start in thirty minutes. I told him I was torn between his talk and capturing the rainbow. He laughed and said, its all in foreground, meaning, I told him I was trying to get a good view of the rainbow but the pines were obstructing. So I hurried over to the new Library and was able to get the shot. In order to balance the sky and the "foreground", I used a polarized sunglass as a neutral density filter, placing it over the sky and carefully lining it up on the horizon line.
It is a good trick for the times you do not have a filter, or with one of the little point and shoot cameras lacking filters.

Lil Kindergarten Caboose

In Lake City or Columbia County several years ago, all the Kindergarten students attended a wonderful campus North of town. Out on the playground, the center of attraction was a real caboose that the kids especially enjoyed. I recall both my nieces Allison and Jessica attending the Kindergarten Center.
Now the Center is used for truant students and it more resembles a prison. Sad.

Floyd and the Pink Bike

Every child that lives near concrete or brick should be given chalk crayons. I love to come upon their creations. This particular one appealed to me as Pink Floyd is my favorite rock group. I wonder if the kids heard mom and dad playing the song or if they played them?

Watermelon Tub

Came upon this novel idea for a wash tub. I have collected several from my fathers place and think that I shall convert some of them into similiar designs...squash,cucumber,okra,etc.
